Like a deeply unwanted Christmas text from a half-forgotten ex, I just thought I’d say hi to see if you’re still interested.
It’s been a mere three years since my first run at #content and I miss you guys. Well, I miss writing about things other than those contained by the day job.
So here we go, second serve.
Of all the new things that the first good ship ‘self indulgent newsletter’ set out to explore (music, food, film and pubs) the one that I still come back to is music, as it’s fucking great. And, unless you’re one of the handful of weirdos I’ve met who doesn’t like music, you like it too.
Everyone needs a gimmick, and here’s mine: Four songs on my mind every fortnight, and a little playlist as a treat.
Something old:
A song from before I was born (Nov 13 1995). This has the added bonus of both not limiting the amount of music I can choose, and also conveniently means that I’m technically forever young.
Something new:
A new song. It’s fresh, it’s exciting. I’ve done an okay job of keeping up with some new music, and even converting new finds into seeing them live. My desperate attempt to remain relevant is your vague gain.
Something borrowed:
(See where we’re going with this naming thing?) A recommendation from someone else. Nobody gets all their songs off their own back, so let’s get sharing. Write in if there’s something you like, or you’d think I’d like.
Something blue:
Sad songs are the best, and nothing will change my mind about that. Everyone’s been sad, everyone’s loved, everyone’s lost. It’s the best material for music. Let’s get wallowing.
Housekeeping out of the way, expect your first course in the next two weeks and every fortnight afterwards. Who knows, maybe I’ll even stick with it this time.
Happy listening, and in the meantime happy new year.
